Psalm 71: “By thee have I been holden up from the womb”

Our 3-part study with Psalm 71 study entitled “By thee have I been holden up from the womb” is now available here.

It seems very fitting that this study was in three parts as three represents the process of spiritual completion which is what we go unto on the third day if Christ is accomplishing that within us in this age (Luk 13:32).

Luk 13:32  And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

The focus of the study with this Psalm is on how God is faithful throughout that spiritual maturing process that brings us from babes to be mature in the faith as stated in these two verses (Heb 12:2 , Isa 49:15):

Heb 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Isa 49:15  Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

It is comforting and humbling at the same time to know that we are God’s workmanship in this age and that the only way that we can truly come out of her my people (2Co 6:17) is by the grace and faith of Christ (Eph 2:8). It is with this reality in mind that we look more deeply at the mercy of God through this spiritual birthing process of being “holden up from the womb”, and how His Sovereign hand plays into the shaping and building of the body of Christ, or the bride of Christ (Php 2:13 , Rev 19:7).

2Co 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Php 2:13  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Rev 19:7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

God wants us to know what it means to count the cost (Luk 14:28), and to come to see realistically that all who are being dragged to Christ (Joh 6:44) in this age are being given the power through Christ to understand that they are a living sacrifice (Rom 8:16 , Rom 12:1) that has been predestined from the foundation of the world for the good of the other fold (Joh 10:16) who Christ and his body are going to save (Oba 1:21).

Luk 14:28  For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

Joh 6:44  No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Rom 8:16  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Joh 10:16  And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Oba 1:21  And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.

The certainty of our Lord being the author and finisher of our faith is brought out brightly in this study and how we are spiritual midwives (Exo 1:19-20) for each other who minister to one and other in that process, witnessing to His love in each other and witnessing to the world that we are disciples indeed (Joh 8:31-32) whose deliverance from the earth, earth, earth comes about as a result of our bearing each other’s burdens which is how we are “holden up from the womb” and brought unto the promised finishing of faith process that Christ is the author of (Isa 49:15 , Heb 12:2).

Exo 1:19  And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
Exo 1:20  Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

Joh 8:31  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Joh 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Isa 49:15  Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

Heb 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
