Psalm 83 “Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God”

At first glance, I would have never suspected that one of the key words in this study for God’s people to understand is the word ‘peace’ [H2790], which is mentioned in the first verse (Psa 83:1).

But when we understand the meaning of that word and the work that we are called unto through Christ, it makes perfect sense that we must be that people who ‘plough’ H2790 through this life pressing toward the prize of the mark of the high calling in Christ (Php 3:13-14), blessed to keep our hands on that plow by the power of God’s holy spirit (Luk 9:62 , Rev 11:3 , Php 4:13), and having his commandments then ‘engraved’ H2790 on our once stony hearts that He turns to fleshly hearts little by little as he drives the beastly nature out of His temple,  making the field fallow and ready for the word to be received (Eze 36:26 , Exo 23:30 , 1Cor 3:16 , Mat 13:8).

Php 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

1Co 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Mat 13:8  But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

This Psalm demonstrates that only way we are ever going to overcome our enemies within, spoken of in verse 2 “For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head”, will be to have our Lord cleanse the temple (1Cor 3:16 , Joh 2:15)  by keeping us from being spiritually inactive or “Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace H2790, and be not still, O God.” via the chastening and scourging that God allows upon every son who He receives in this age (Heb 12:6)

1Co 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Joh 2:15  And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

This thought of being his witnesses via the trials and suffering and being on the cross with Christ (Gal 2:20) ties into the study with Psalm 82., as well seeing we know that Christ is the one and only true and faithful witness who is working in His people both to will and to do of our Fathers good pleasure (Rev 3:14 , Php 2:13), which is to witness to the fact that we are His disciples and the bride of Christ who is being made ready through the destruction and overcoming of the cities that are spoken of in this particular Psalm as a type and shadow of what we must overcome in our own heavens to become a cleansed temple and fit for the Masters use (2Tim 2:21).

Gal 2:20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Rev 3:14  And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

Php 2:13  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

2Ti 2:21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

Every city, every jot and tittle, has significance for us if we are granted to see why God places those cities in our life (Mat 5:18). It is for our growth that God takes us down any road, and we learn through the revelation that God gives us in this Psalm and in his word that that road is a predestined road that has no plan B connected to it (Rom8:29).

Mat 5:18  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Rom 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

God blesses His people to truly be able to “Keep not thou silence, O God:
hold not thy peaceH2790, and be not still, O God” by filling up what is behind of His afflictions as we go through the various Gentile cities within us and witness to the world within and without of His great power that makes it possible for us to be more than conquerors through Him (Rom 8:26)

Rom 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

In this study we look closely at what the names of those Gentile cities mean, and we discover how the Lord allows us to visit them in order to grow us up and bring us unto maturity in Him. It is a predestined walk being fulfilled all according to the counsel of His own will and, therefore, when we go into theses cities, we say Lord willing we will do this or that (Rom 8:29 , Eph 1:11 , Jas 4:15)

Rom 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Eph 1:11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Jas 4:15  For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
